When producing the 1985 series, by far the best part was coming up with the 'soundtrack mix' and working with the DJ or producer who'd end up creating these. After Peanut Butter Wolf offered to make the first mix (I was originally going to make these myself), I figured I'd reach out to other luminaries and see if they were interested. From there, I had Kutmasta Kurt lined up as well as Bay Area DJ Coolie B.
For the fourth mix, I'd elected to cobble together some of my actual radio tapes recorded off of KUBO FM, a public radio station from Salinas. Their funk resident DJ Bubba G Scotch played all of the newest funk and Hip Hop! As kids, we were enamored by this larger-than-life figure, who'd ultimately become a good friend.
Upon news that he had passed away in 2011, I thought of no better way to pay tribute than to stitch together my old tapes into the following mix that was accompanied with 1985 Volume 4!
RIP Bubba G Scotch!
