I was excited to hear from Kendall (who also goes by the DJ name 14KT). We had worked together on his previous project Five & Ten. We had such a blast on that animation that we were excited to hear what Kendall had in mind!
After some initial back and forth, Kendall brought up 'Harold and the Purple Crayon' to serve as inspiration. I'd hoped we could preserve a 'children's book' look for the art, and have the animation follow suit. What I'd did at this point is drum up a series of drawings that can at least capture the vibe we're going for.

As mentioned, we wanted the art to have a hand-drawn look that would reflect a children's book. We had a chalkboard texture that seemed to nicely complement the line art style. Also, a palette was chosen to simplify the look and create a uniform style for the visuals. The track, which was called 'Power of Same' had a dreamy feel to it, so, our colors had to fit that.
From there, we drafted up a storyline revolving around a dream that allows the dreaming kid to 'draw' his way through a series of environments. This dream sends him through speedways and war zones and treacherous seas.

Vocalist Mushinah was featured on the track and thus we created a character for her to appear in cameo appearances throughout the piece.
It was a blast working in this style and watching it come to life. 14KT is a master at his craft and we consider ourselves lucky to have had another chance to partner up with him!
